An East Asian warlord Wong Chu pits him and physicist Ho Yinsen to make a powerful weapon for him. They came up with an idea of creating an iron suit that would not only keep him alive from the shrapnel near his heart but also would let him escape. With Yinsen’s sacrifice, Tony becomes Iron Man for the first time and takes revenge on Wong Chu.
Upon arriving home, he developed his armor with even further advancement and announced Iron Man as his personal bodyguard to conceal his secret identity. He would eventually team up with Thor, Ant-Man, The Wasp and the Hulk to form the superhero team The Avengers. Later they took Captain America in and Tony becomes a very good friend of him.
He found pilot James Rhodes wearing the War Machine armor to fight by his side. Following 'Kree-Skrull War', Tony along with Black Bolt of The Inhumans, Doctor Strange, Namor, Professor X of the X-Men and Reed Richards of Fantastic Four formed a secret band called The Illuminati to watch over the matters beyond that deeply affects the Earth. Other than that, he finances The Avengers, was director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and saves the world from various threats on a regular basis.

The character is one of the most recognized after Spider-Man and even has three motion picture of his own; Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010) and Iron Man 3 (2013) as well as The Avengers (2012) and Avengers – Age of Ultron (2015), starring Robert Downy Jr.
Later, Iron Man is also a member of the superhero team Avengers and has been a prominent character during the Secret Wars (1984), Avengers Disassembled, Civil War, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion, Fear Itself, Avengers Vs. X-Men, Age of Ultron and AXIS crossover event.
